About this item

An impossibly rare poster for the original release of the 1969 music documentary film 'Supershow' featuring Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Stephen Stills, Buddy Guy, Buddy Miles and Roland Kirk. Produced by Colourtel, who had recently released 'The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus' and 'Jimi Hendrix at Royal Albert Hall,' the film was intended to be Britain's first music super session, bringing together big blues, jazz and rock acts from both sides of the Atlantic. Directed by John Crome and produced by Tom Parkinson, filming took place on 25th and 26th March 1969 in a disused linoleum factory in Staines, England. Reportedly, Jimi Hendrix was due to take part but missed his plane out of New York. Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page recalled: "We performed Dazed and Confused with what seemed to be a pretty experienced production team, as the camera angles appeared interesting at the time. They also used some dry ice, which was quite vibey, and we were just part of a number of artists that were to appear on this show." Zeppelin's performance of 'Dazed and Confused' was later released on the Led Zeppelin DVD in 2003.

Beautifully silkscreen printed with an elaborate airship design in pink and purple inks, we are aware of only one other copy of this poster that has surfaced for sale. It is likely that this poster was printed for the film's week-long premiere run at London's Lyceum Theatre in November 1969 and later sent on to other cinemas, possibly in North America, for limited screenings through 1970.

Not backed. Very thin paper stock. One horizontal and one vertical fold line with wear to fold lines. Nicks and creases to corners and edges. One pinhole to each corner. Fine scratch above the cockerel which has pierced through 1 in. of the paper. Darkening to edges and folds and age-staining to reverse. Red ink date stencil applied to lower blank portion. Image and colours otherwise excellent.
