What is Cintique furniture?
Cintique furniture specialise in making high quality upholstered chairs. It was originally founded by Jack Cinnamon in London in 1908. Cintique furniture combines high quality materials (usually beechwood frames) with optimal craftsmanship to produce chairs which were designed to last and provide plenty of comfort.
What makes a vintage Cintique chair so special?
The key to a Cintique chair’s quality can be found in its spring system. Most of the spring systems found in a Cintique chair or armchair are still carefully crafted in the UK. The patented Cintique four point suspension spring was originally designed by founder Jack Cinnamon in the early part of the 20th century. This spring system was so successful that it’s still used in most of the chairs produced by Cintique today. It’s designed for maximum comfort, and is made up of 17 individual steel coil springs. These are attached to a cross, which runs through the centre of the chair. This complex mechanism is hidden away behind the seat’s cushions. It’s built to last and, most importantly, provides the ultimate comfort to users.
Are Cintique armchairs popular?
Cintique armchairs are still manufactured today using the same traditional methods, materials and design approach. Their current products have a strong environmental emphasis, with wood sourced from managed forests in Europe, produced in carefully managed workshops and uses low waste and low emissions processes.
Traditional crafting in Cintique chairs
Today, Cintique chairs, Cintique sofas and recliners are upholstered in the company’s unique custom fabrics on solid ash timber frames. Each piece is unique, and highlights the natural knots and other characterful wood traits. They’re assembled using traditional joinery skills and craftsmanship producing specialist mortise and tenon joints, all of which ensures that every piece of Cintique furniture is built to last.
Vintage Cintique armchairs are available in a wide range of fabrics and designs, and all offer excellent lumber support. A Cintique chair could fit just as easily in a country cottage, a traditional home or a more contemporary living space.
Unlike other furniture companies, Cintique is still going strong. Based in Nottingham, the firm is now under the umbrella of the JDP Furniture Group. The designs are still crafted using traditional methods, using the same materials, and embody the same ethos.
