About this item

An original pen add ink cartoon drawing featuring a distinguished looking soldier playing darts and smoking a pipe. Exquisitely drawn, the darts player was obviously a bit of a character in the mess, and is seen here deep in concentration in an exaggerated darts pose. He is wearing the short tunic top and tartan 'Trews' (or trousers) of one of the Scottish 'lowland' regiments.

Until the establishment of the Royal Regiment of Scotland in 2006, military trews were usually worn by members of the lowland Scottish regiments as part of their No 1, mess and full dress uniforms. Members of highland Scottish regiments were usually authorized to wear kilts with these orders of dress.

Signed W.H.G and dated '44. The drawing is in good condition and presented under glass in a simple black painted frame of the period.
