About this item

What encapsulates 70s glamour more than this dining set? Four GOLD Cesca chairs provide a comfortable dining experience with a complementing hexagonal glass table supported by a GOLD tubular steel stem.

Bauhaus changed the design world for ever - heavily influenced by modernism and simplified forms, stripped down designs were the new focus, featuring clean lines, sharp corners and solid colours. This evolution influenced future designers and eventually gave birth to the MCM movement we all know and love.

Although no makers mark on either the chairs or the table, my research flagged up a 60s dining set that was similar in style to this, the Thonet S32 Chairs + S1052 table.

These Cesca chairs and complementing table are in fabulous vintage condition and would grace any mid century home. All four chairs, whilst showing signs of wear and usage ( mainly the chrome discolouration with scratches and scuffing, with obvious signs of previous repairs ) are extremely stylish and comfortable ( good tension on the seat pads, no breaks in the cane ). The hexagonal glass topped hardwood ( probably beech ) table is also in great vintage condition, with light surface scratches to the glass and there is a small chip/scratch to one edge ( hardly noticeable ) and some rust on the chrome stem ( see photos - we have tried to highlight the worst of the damage, as you can see the overall condition of the golden chrome still gives a great effect! ).

Practical as well as stylish, the chairs all have their original protective rubber pads on the bottom runner and the table features adjustable feet.

The dining set has been thoroughly cleaned and degreased, given a light sand to the wooden areas and several coats of danish oil applied to enhance and protect; the chrome has been polished and now reflects its original mid century glamour.

Putting this set together really made me smile, recycling stylish furniture that’s as relevant today as it was back in the 70s. It’s now ready and waiting for a new generation of MC furniture lovers to entertain Bauhaus style in their own home, safe in the knowledge that their guests are almost guaranteed not to see another set like this! Alternatively, would bring some 70s kitsch to a ( private? ) dining area in that club, bar or restaurant !

Please note that all these products are pre loved and therefore show signs of general wear for their age. Every effort is made to highlight any damage or wear, with our prices reflecting condition. Further photos are available on request.

If you don’t know about the Cesca Chair ..............

Marcel Breuer, the Hungarian designer of the cesca cane chair, is considered one of the fathers of modernism. During his career he was a modernist architect, teacher and furniture designer. With comfort in mind, he chose to use one continuous steel tube in a cantilever style. The chair, designed at the Bauhaus, was named “cesca “ as a tribute to Breuer’s adopted daughter, Francesca.

Marcel Breuer married traditional craftsmanship with industrial methods and materials to help make tubular steel furniture an international sensation and become a modern institution. The cantilever form exploits the possibilities unique to the material and gives the chair added flexibility and comfort. This iconic seat features woven cane inserts and a beech frame.

Straight lines, curves and high quality materials are the features of the cesca chair; a timeless piece of 20th Century furniture intergrating perfectly with today’s retro mix and attracting collectors of mid century furniture. Very comfortable, thanks to the lightweight metal cantilever structure that make it flexible; a perfect desk or dining chair!
