Why are Cassina sofas so sought after?
The brand's road to success started out much like hundreds of others icon furniture stories in a small joinery workshop. With its beginnings dating back to the 18th century in Meda, Italy, brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina took over the business, a small family workshop focusing their attention on bespoke woodworking used for tables used in the local Lombardy region. Emerging after the rubble of World War I, in 1927, entrepreneur Cesare introduced upholstery to the company. The history of this brand's mass production of Cassina sofas and modern furniture entered the market following the second world war. During the country's economic boom, the post-war renaissance in the 1950s shifted from handcraftsmanship to emerging growth demand for manufactured home furnishings. Over the decades, the Maestri Collection has become a major design icon, such as the LC4 Lounge, the Willow chair by Scottish architect-designer Charles Rennie and Rietveld's 635 Red & Blue Armchair. An everchanging collection not frozen in the past, it's revisited and updated for modern style living.
