More about Cassina and their trademark sofas

Cassina has a longstanding history of fusing technological skills with fine craftsmanship; this exceptional Italian furniture brand is widely recognised as the first interior brand to launch what is now known as industrial design. Specialising in creating exclusive designer Cassina sofas and furniture, the brand is the only manufacturer of authentic Le Corbusier furniture. If you are passionate about Italian industrial design's golden era, you're undoubtedly devoted to designers like Le Corbusier, Jean Marie Massaud, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. Names responsible for some of the most celebrated designs worldwide but also behind some of the classic Cassina sofa creations we've all come to love. During its 90-year history, Cassina has worked with a host of classic and contemporary visionaries; in 1964, Cassina signed the first exclusive licensing agreement covering the edition rights for designs by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. Their illustrious legacy has earned them a respected international reputation, from pioneering collaborations with architects and designers to their commitment to innovation and research.

Why are Cassina sofas so sought after?

The brand's road to success started out much like hundreds of others icon furniture stories in a small joinery workshop. With its beginnings dating back to the 18th century in Meda, Italy, brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina took over the business, a small family workshop focusing their attention on bespoke woodworking used for tables used in the local Lombardy region. Emerging after the rubble of World War I, in 1927, entrepreneur Cesare introduced upholstery to the company. The history of this brand's mass production of Cassina sofas and modern furniture entered the market following the second world war. During the country's economic boom, the post-war renaissance in the 1950s shifted from handcraftsmanship to emerging growth demand for manufactured home furnishings. Over the decades, the Maestri Collection has become a major design icon, such as the LC4 Lounge, the Willow chair by Scottish architect-designer Charles Rennie and Rietveld's 635 Red & Blue Armchair. An everchanging collection not frozen in the past, it's revisited and updated for modern style living. Discover this exquisite collection of Cassina sofas, tables, chairs, and other pieces created from the past, present, and future; Cassina's shapes and expressions have a traced history of design.
