About this item

A good George II to George III burr walnut and brass bound tea caddy. The burr panels have box wood and harewood stringing and walnut banding. The top, sides and bottom mouldings are of brass, as is the slender brass cock beading to the top. All brass work is original apart from the escutcheon, which is a period replacement. It has a secret drawer, held in place by a steel pin. There were a variety of manufacturers in London of this period who used brass inlays, from John Channon, Friedrich Heinz, Thomas Potter, etc. Circa 1750.
