About this item

This fantastic looking pair of mid century armchairs were made in The Czech republic sometime in the 1950's
we bought them in Prague last month.
They are in In good condition. there isn't any any play in the arms..... they are solid as the day they were made.
The material on them is like a dark burnt amber/rustic colour with a yellow pattern, the material is in excellent condition and I can't work out whether it is original or it might have been reupholstered 30/40 years ago there is a slight fading to one of the panels on the side (see pictures) but either way the material is tactile and clean and suits the style of chair very well.
Jindrich Halabala was a professor of design and architecture in Prague and was a giant in European furniture design in the 1930s and 40s.
He strived to produce attractive looking furniture that was high quality and well made and he pioneered a technique and designed the machinery to bend large pieces of wood using steam and rollers. He was a designer rather than a manufacturer there were three or four companies which made these chairs across the Czech republic.
This particular model is one of the most popular styles I buy, I can never find enough of them in this good condition to supply the demand.
They are a fantastic looking pair of chairs which ever angle you look at them from, the outstanding design feature of these chairs is the use of one single
large piece of bentwood to make up the Long hope that makes up there arm.... this is the only design of chair that I can think of that does this with one single length of bentwood.

I want to point out that the dark line again the back of one of the chairs and picnic seven is just a shadow.
As they are at the moment, they are in very good condition.
They are 60+ years old so there is some signs of age nothing I can really point out the material has minor fading on one or two side panels.
please check all the pictures carefully.
The frames are very strong and sturdy and there is no damage to the main structure of the chairs
All of the wood on the arms is in good condition.
