About this item

This is a rare opportunity to own an antique Victorian, flame mahogany dining table, circa 1850 in date, with a set of fourteen Vintage balloon back dining chairs, late 20th Century in date.

The table has four original leaves and is complete with the original mahogany leaf holder, and these leaves can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion.

It is raised on five turned legs which have been beautifully hand carved and terminate with the original brass castors that have decorative gadrooned collars, the central leg is for added stability when the table is fully extended.

This table was made from solid mahogany by a master craftsman, and should last for generations more. Take a look at the amazing and brilliant system of runners that pull out as you extend the table to support the leaves.

The set of fourteen Vintage solid mahogany hand carved balloon back chairs comprises twelve side chairs and two armchairs. They have been beautifully upholstered with a very attractive ivory coloured fabric and are ready to grace your dining room.

In excellent condition having been beautifully restored in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

Flame Mahogany
Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."

The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
