About this item
Bronze with Green Patina, signed Alexandre Ouline, Belgian sculptor active from 1918 to 1940.
Entitled "Le Halage", this sculpture represents, on the right, a man pulling a rope with the force of his arm. Except for a small cloth which barely conceals its privacy, the Marinier's body is entirely naked. One of its feet rests on the rocky ground, the other on a reef separating it from a sea which seems rough.
We imagine at the end of this rope a river boat that the protagonist would tenaciously try to move forward, as it was common to do before the motorization of boats.
The man's hair, the movement given to his drape and the waves that stir the waves suggest that the character has to face strong winds. The artist knew in his work to bring out the strength of his subject, his aggressiveness in the accomplishment of his task, notably through the features of his face, the contracture of his muscles, the tension of his limbs.
The set rests on a rectangular base, in Portor Marble, a relatively rare Italian rock of Black color, veined with Ocher.
Note, on the back, the signature of the author of this decorative Bronze of 29 kgs.
In a perfect state.
