Description
Designed by Jindrich Halabala, renowned designer credited with ushering in the mass market production of furniture in his native Czechoslovakia and made by UP Zavody, a well known Czechoslovakian furniture manufacturer and dealer based in Brno.
It has been restored and reupholstered by our professional refurbishing team in Czechia according to the original process. The chrome parts have been cleaned and professionally restored. The new upholstery is high quality leather, it's very easy to clean and retains its colours very well even in direct sunlight.
Sold as a set, although you can find these items as individual items on our profile as well.
This item features classic Art Deco elements. Art Deco is a style that originates from France in the early 20th century. Its furniture designs are meticulously crafted, usually using exotic woods. Pieces are normally lacquered to give off a dazzling gloss. These eloquently crafted pieces will add visual performance and posh to any interior.
More about the designer
Jindřich Halabala was born on May 24, 1903 in Koryčany into the family of carpenter Štěpán Halabala, whose craft he learned in a family business between 1918 and 1920. He then joined the State Czechoslovak Vocational School for Wood Processing in Valašské Meziříčí, which he graduated from two years later. After school, he started practicing at the United UP races, where he met their founder Jan Vaňek.
In 1922 he also began to study architecture at the School of Applied Arts in Prague, specializing in furniture and interiors with prof. Pavel Janák. He completed his studies in 1926. In the same year, he created the first designs for furniture and carpets. In 1927, he was briefly employed in Bohumil Hübschmann's studio in Prague, and in 1928 he finally joined the United UP plant as the head of the Prague store in the Lucerna Palace.
In 1927, Jindřich Halabala married Pavla Sekerková, with whom he had two sons; in 1929 son Jindra and in 1935 son Ivan. In 1930, he was transferred to the Brno headquarters of the United UP plant as head of the studio, where he worked in various positions (procurator, director) until 1946, and thus fundamentally contributed to a comprehensive concept of production, promotion and sales. Later, he became interested in passing on his knowledge to future generations, and between 1951 and 1954 he lectured externally at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Engineering at the VŠPDI in Košice.
In 1954 he was appointed an extraordinary (and a year later also a full) professor and began his long-term work at the Faculty of Wood Science of the University of Forestry and Wood Technology in Zvolen, where he founded and headed the Research Institute. He worked here until 1970, when he retired.

The company was established in 1921 by merging the Brno furniture company J. Slavička and the Jan Vaňek Arts and Crafts Workshops in Třebíč. The initiator of the company was Jan Vaněk, who strived for quality and purpose-built furniture, corresponding to contemporary trends. In 1930, architect Jindřich Halabala started working for the company, and initially devoted himself mainly to the then novelty, tubular furniture, and later became the director of the company. According to J. Halabala's designs, UP závody produced quality metal and wooden furniture, some types especially for companies promoting tasteful home accessories, especially for Cooperative Work and later also Krásná jizba.

1. Free cancellations
Changed your mind before dispatch?
You can cancel any order before it's shipped for a full refund, including delivery.
To cancel an order, click Create cancellation on the order page.
Once an item has been dispatched, delivery costs are not refundable.
Bespoke, personalised or made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled.
2. Returning an item
You have 14 days from delivery to request a return.
There are two return types:
A. The item isn't as described (free return)
If your piece arrives and it doesn't match the listing in any material way (incorrect description, undisclosed damage, inaccurate measurements, misleading photos), you are fully protected:
- Free return
- The seller or Vinterior arranges pickup
- Full refund, including outbound delivery costs once the seller receives the item
This applies to all purchases.
B. You changed your mind
UK-to-UK furniture deliveries:
To make UK furniture returns predictable and stress-free, we offer a simple flat return fee of £75.
- Applies to furniture delivered from a UK mainland seller to a mainland UK address. Excludes Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly.
- Pickup arranged for you
- One clear fee, no surprises
We coordinate the return with either the seller's chosen courier or our trusted delivery partner.
All other items
Most smaller items are straightforward to return.
You can still return your item within 14 days.
- For smaller or parcel-sized items, you can choose to post the item back yourself using a tracked service, or the seller can suggest a preferred courier.
- For larger or more fragile pieces, the seller may recommend the safest return method.
- Return delivery costs vary depending on size and courier.
The seller will confirm the best option based on the item.
3. If your item arrives damaged
Damage on arrival is uncommon, especially for UK furniture deliveries.
But if something does go wrong, you're fully protected.
- Let us know as soon as possible (ideally within 72 hours of delivery) so we can resolve things quickly
- Share photos so we understand what happened
- We’ll help arrange a return and refund if needed

Your statutory rights apply for up to 30 days from delivery.
4. What can't be returned
Some items cannot be returned:

Returns are completed smoothly once the pickup is arranged.
7. Refunds
Once the seller receives the piece back in the same condition it was sent, we'll issue your refund to your original payment method.
Once a refund is issued, it may take up to 5–10 working days for the funds to appear back on your original payment method, depending on your bank or card provider.
If the item is returned with new damage that wasn't present at delivery, the refund may be adjusted following review.
