About this item

The Shogun Tavolo Table Lamp (named after feudal Japan's ruler) was designed by Mario Botta, the founder of inTicino, for the manufacturer Artemide.

This original model was sourced from a private collector in Europe.

Botta is also an architectural researcher whose work is internationally recognised with such important awards as International Architecture Award, Merit Award for Excellence in Design, and IAA Annual Prix 2005. Artemide was established in 1960.

The standout Shogun Tavolo Table Lamp by Mario Botta for Artemide is a bold geometric centrepiece that illuminates diffused and direct light as required. With two flexible perforated diffusers and a stem of plate steel, it revolves to bring about a dazzling ambiance of shade and light. Shogun Tavolo Table Lamp is 59.5cm in height.

Born in Mendrisio, Switzerland in 1943, Mario Botta is a working architect and designer in the postmodern style. Studying at the Liceo Artistico in Milan and the University of Architecture in Venice, he worked with the greats, Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn, designing houses and churches. His architecture features strong geometric forms, just like his lighting. He is famous for his Shogun lamps and this table lamp version is a great example. With his signature black and white striped base and manipulatable metal shades. The enamelled perforated shades allow you to alter the positioning of the intricate shadows created on the surrounding walls, helping you get the mood just right.

There are some marks on the base but nothing that distracts from the beauty of this piece. Fitted with its original European plug, an adapter will be supplied for UK buyers.

A great addition to any mid century - modern home or office.
