Product Details

Description

This elegant white and gold ceramic table lamp was produced by Fratelli Fanciullacci in Italy during the 1970s, exemplifying the refined craftsmanship and decorative sensibility for which the Montelupo Fiorentino workshop was known.

The lamp features a slender, bottle-shaped ceramic body with a gently tapered neck and rounded lower section. Its surface is finished in a white glaze, meticulously enriched with hand-cut incisions that create fine horizontal striations wrapping the entire form. These incisions add subtle texture and depth, catching the light and emphasizing the lamp’s sculptural silhouette.

Around the widest part of the body, ornamental gold bands encircle the lamp, hand-painted with repeating scroll and wave motifs. The gold and white glaze combination lends the piece a sophisticated yet warm presence, characteristic of Italian decorative ceramics from this period. The contrast between the matte, textured white surface and the lustrous gold detailing highlights the artisanal nature of the piece.

The lamp retains its original ceramic light socket in white, which complements the body seamlessly. Underneath, it is hand painted with the inscription “626/70 ITALY,” confirming its model number, production year, and origin.

DIMENSIONS:
Height: 30.5 cm (approximately 25 cm without the light socket)
Diameter: 11.5 cm

Lampshade is not included. If you are interested in any of the lampshades shown in photos, please inquire about its availability.

ABOUT Fratelli Fanciullacci
Fratelli Fanciullacci was founded in 1862 in Capraia Fiorentino by Raffaello Fanciullacci, initially producing utilitarian tableware. By 1880, the company adopted the Fratelli Fanciullacci name and steadily expanded. After relocating to Montelupo Fiorentino in 1911, the firm flourished, offering over 1,000 models by 1914 and becoming one of the area’s most important ceramic manufacturers.

Throughout the early and mid-20th century, Fanciullacci broadened its production to include artistic and decorative ceramics, serving both Italian and American markets. Influential designers, including Aldo Londi (prior to his tenure at Bitossi), worked with the company, and its output closely reflected contemporary design trends.

The catastrophic Arno River flood of November 4, 1966 marked a turning point. The factory was devastated, losing molds, kilns, raw materials, and finished works. Although production resumed, collectors widely consider 1966 the last peak year for collectible Fanciullacci ceramics. The company ultimately ceased operations in 1988.

This table lamp stands as a fine example of post-war Italian ceramic lighting, combining decorative tradition with modern form, and represents the enduring legacy of Fratelli Fanciullacci’s craftsmanship.
