Description
Vintage sculptural horse table lamps, a pair, Maison Jansen style, wood & gilt bronze, 1970`s ca, French.
This pair of vintage lamps have been gently cleaned while respecting the aged patina. They are newly rewired, earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. Each has the following new components: brass lamp holder, gold silk cable, black cord switch, black plug (UK Plug up to 250V) & new pagoda shades. Lightbulbs included. These lamps can be used with a dimmer. It is possible to use these lights in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.
Presented here is a fine pair of 20th Century sculptural table lamps in the manner of Maison Jansen of Paris. They were originally manufactured as lamps. They have several design features typical of Maison Charles: the horse theme, the combination of Traditional & Neoclassical styles simplified in a Modernist design, elegant proportions, luxury materials, quality crisp casting and heavy weight.
The horse theme has been used regularly over the years in France. This Neoclassical design gets the inspiration from ancient Greek horse sculptures.
The sculptural form & elegant proportions make these lamps well proportioned for any room. The equine subject suits a wide range of decors: perfect for a desk, console, side table or sideboard. The design is classic, timeless & decorative. They would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Art Deco, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary.
The composition of each lamp consists of a removable quality cast & heavy gilt bronze horse in motion standing on an oval wooden mahogany base. The base has a satin polished finish with a stepped border all around. Under the horse there is a polished brass rectangular sheet attached to the wood that reflects the light from above towards the horse sculpture. The wooden base has new black felt underneath to protect the furniture below.
The gilt bronze heavy horse sculptures make this lamps strong & stable. The detailing is very decorative: the horse`s ears, hair, position of the head & leg movement make it very unique and full of character. The saddles add an exotic touch. The warm combination of metals and antique patina further add character. As they are removable they can be placed in different positions on the base to create a different look (facing each other, right or left). These horse sculptures were individually handmade so there are minor variations in design & proportions.
From the back portion of the wooden base a tubular reeded brass column raises towards the new brass lampholder. It is arched forward so the shade becomes in line with the base and the light spot on the sculpture of the horse.
Each lamp carries 1 standard big screw light bulb (E 27) up to 60 Watts. At present they are fitted & photographed with clear Candle shaped light bulbs of 25 Watts. These bulbs are included in the price.
Each lamp is finished with a new white silk pagoda lampshade, complete with a white silk trim top and bottom. It is lined in white which enhances the glow of light.
These vintage lamps are in very good condition. The frames are sound with no damages or broken parts. The wood surfaces in very good condition. The metal surfaces overall are in very good condition with the original vintage patina preserved, adding character & depth. There are minor superficial marks & patination in places in line with age. The 2 new lampshades are in very good condition.

Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport the bases & lampshades would be wrapped separately in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. Together these parts would easily fit into a box with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).

1. Free cancellations
Changed your mind before dispatch?
You can cancel any order before it's shipped for a full refund, including delivery.
To cancel an order, click Create cancellation on the order page.
Once an item has been dispatched, delivery costs are not refundable.
Bespoke, personalised or made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled.
2. Returning an item
You have 14 days from delivery to request a return.
There are two return types:
A. The item isn't as described (free return)
If your piece arrives and it doesn't match the listing in any material way (incorrect description, undisclosed damage, inaccurate measurements, misleading photos), you are fully protected:
- Free return
- The seller or Vinterior arranges pickup
- Full refund, including outbound delivery costs once the seller receives the item
This applies to all purchases.
B. You changed your mind
UK-to-UK furniture deliveries:
To make UK furniture returns predictable and stress-free, we offer a simple flat return fee of £75.
- Applies to furniture delivered from a UK mainland seller to a mainland UK address. Excludes Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly.

All other items
Most smaller items are straightforward to return.
You can still return your item within 14 days.
- For smaller or parcel-sized items, you can choose to post the item back yourself using a tracked service, or the seller can suggest a preferred courier.
- For larger or more fragile pieces, the seller may recommend the safest return method.

3. If your item arrives damaged
Damage on arrival is uncommon, especially for UK furniture deliveries.
But if something does go wrong, you're fully protected.
