Description
Precious cartographic work, International Atlas of the Italian Touring Club with a dedication printed to Benito Mussolini, head of the Italian government in 1927.
Work drawn up in the G. Ricordi & C. workshops in Milan, begun in 1927 and authorized for printing in 1929.
It consists of two handcrafted bound volumes, with rigid rib and page edges in purple gold. The first volume presents the political, physical, road and transport tables, as well as detailed maps of the cities. The tables, although the book is "over size", are extremely large, and in a foldable format.
It consists of 170 main tables and 130 partial and developing maps (given the time), obviously the state borders and main lines were very different from today. The second volume collects the indexes of the tables and the names of the cartography used in the first volume.
The second volume also contains the certificates of literary and artistic property, the registration date and the year of publication. In the preface (fifth page) the letter of dedication to the head of the government of Italy, who had commissioned it, Benito Mussolini. From this letter it is clear that the work, desired complete and of excellence, cost 10 years of work. (from 1917 to 1927)
The majesty of this work is completed with the series "Le vie d'Italia" composed of 7 files, containing 53 tables drawn up in 1923, on which the entire mobility network (roads, railways, ports etc ...) of the kingdom of Italy of the time.
This topographical collection is complete and in excellent condition.
On the back of the tables, as well as on the binders, the company advertisements of the time are printed ... Many of those companies that were born at the time as small local and artisanal businesses, are now multinationals, while others have disappeared.
Complete the receipt with the thank you for the purchase.
The two-volume work was not for sale, but reserved only for life-long members of the T.C.I., and for members of the government of the Kingdom of Italy.
The "Le vie d'Italia" series was a collection of which each issue (7 issues in all) cost in the year 1923 Lire 120 in Italy (equal to the current Euro 115), while abroad the price doubled in Lire 240 (equal to the current Euro 230) each.
The conditions are excellent. There are no cracks, scribbles or traces of mold.
