Product Details

Description

This refined bookcase was designed by Tito Agnoli for Caleido, a company belonging to the prestigious Frau Group, in the 1970s.

This is a rare piece of furniture that is highly representative of the designer's research, capable of combining formal rigor, material elegance, and a clear propensity for experimentation.

The solid wood structure, with clean lines and balanced proportions, accommodates two distinct sections: the upper section, closed by sliding smoked glass doors, and the lower section, featuring two doors covered in a patchwork of exquisite black peccary leather. This leather, used only in the highest-end creations, is hand-stitched with great precision, creating an irregular geometric design that gives the piece a unique and sophisticated character.

The smoked glass upper section, with internal shelves, is ideal for displaying books, design collections or decorative objects, but at the same time lends itself perfectly to holding bottles and glasses, transforming the cabinet into an elegant home bar.

The contrast with the leather-covered lower part creates a play of materials and functions that combines lightness and transparency with tactile and material depth.

The dialogue between functionality and beauty is the poetic heart of the project: Agnoli demonstrates once again how design can transcend simple practical use, becoming an aesthetic and sensorial experience. It's no coincidence that many of his pieces are now considered true collectible works of art.

Tito Agnoli (1931-2012), a student of Gio Ponti and Franco Albini, was one of the leading figures in 20th-century Italian design. His work is characterized by ongoing research into the use of materials and a cultured and refined approach.

He has collaborated with companies such as Arflex, Poltrona Frau, Molteni, Oluce, and Matteo Grassi, leaving an indelible mark on the history of design. The peccary-covered furniture he designed for Caleido is part of an extremely limited production and is now considered absolute rarities on the international market.

This piece is more than just a bookcase or storage unit; it's a versatile piece that can double as a sophisticated bar, perfect for elegant residential settings or formal spaces. A rare and collectible piece, it can transform any room with its sculptural presence, designed by one of the great masters of Italian design.

Tito Agnoli (1931-2012) was an Italian designer and architect, known for his functional and essential approach to design. Born in Lima, Peru, to an Italian family, he moved to Italy to study painting before graduating in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan in the early 1950s. During his studies, he collaborated with design masters such as Gio Ponti and Carlo De Carli, experiences that profoundly influenced his style.

Agnoli stood out for his ability to combine elegance and practicality, designing furnishings with simple, clean lines, with a particular focus on functionality and industrial production. He worked for some of the most prestigious companies in the industry, including Molteni, Poltrona Frau, Arflex, and Oluce, creating furniture and lamps that are still appreciated for their simplicity and refinement.

His work has been recognized several times with prizes and awards, including several mentions at the Compasso d'Oro.

His minimalist and rational approach left a mark on post-war Italian design, making his creations still sought after today by collectors and vintage furniture enthusiasts.
