This is a superb quality vintage English 16th century Gothic style four poster bed, with a Pugin influence, constructed from solid oak, featuring a stunning carved headboard and posts, which fits a UK 5ft wide king size mattress, circa 1930, in excellent condition.

Description:
This is a superb quality vintage English 16th century Gothic style four poster bed, with a Pugin influence, constructed from solid oak, featuring a stunning carved headboard and posts, which fits a UK 5ft wide king size mattress, circa 1930, in excellent condition.
This is a superb quality bed finished in a golden oak colour, having been handmade in England from solid oak. The bed is in the style of the Gothic period, which dates from between the 12th to the 16th Century in England. This bed shows exceptional craftsmanship and carved detail. All panels (including the headboard) are detachable for ease of transport, easy access into a house and up staircases). This bed fits up to a standard UK king size mattress (5ft wide x 6ft 6” long).
The headboard can be dismantled into panels (if necessary) to allow easy access up narrow staircases or through doorways. The Gothic style four poster bed is constructed in the traditional manner with mortise, tenon & peg joints. The headboard consists of several carved panels and rails – with a pierced gallery above two horizontal pierced & carved panels and five tracery panels below. The central tracery panel is decorated with a star, flanked by smaller tracery panels. The posts are decorated with lozenge and floral shaped carvings, capped with arched finials. The base of the bed comprises a simple footboard and side rails, within which sits sturdy pine slats.
With the slats and side rails combined, it is large enough to accommodate a 5ft wide king size mattress (a king size mattress measures 5ft wide by 6ft 6” long). A slightly smaller 4ft 6” double size mattress could be used, if you wish to place it on the slats only.
This Gothic style four poster bed is accentuated with style, romance and tradition. The impression created by this bed will without doubt be a memorable one as they are genuinely unique and recreate the ultimate in luxury of a bygone age.
This Gothic style four poster bed is not to be confused with other four-poster beds of lesser quality in the market place today. This bed is hand-made; with hand carved panels, unlike other machine carved beds. The design, build quality and superstructure (thickness of panels) are of superior and exceptional quality. It is an extremely heavy bed!
Provenance:
The design of this oak four poster bed was influenced by the popular Pugin movement, during the mid-19th century. Augustus Pugin was an English architect, designer, artist and critic who is principally remembered for his pioneering role in the Gothic Revival style of architecture. His work culminated in designing the interior of the Palace of Westminster in Westminster, London, England, and its iconic clock tower, later renamed the Elizabeth Tower, which houses the bell known as Big Ben. Pugin designed many churches in England, and some in Ireland and Australia. He also created Alton Castle in Alton, Staffordshire

Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. This bed has been cleaned and wax polished in our workshop to a professional standard, therefore the colour and finish is of an excellent standard. It is an extremely well made, heavy and solid in joint. There are no veneers on this bed either; it is made of solid oak. The bed boasts exquisite carvings, un-paralleled in terms of detail, intricacy and quality. This bed is of superior quality and construction, and is no comparison to similar beds in the market place today.

1. Free cancellations
Changed your mind before dispatch?
You can cancel any order before it's shipped for a full refund, including delivery.

Once an item has been dispatched, delivery costs are not refundable.
Bespoke, personalised or made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled.
2. Returning an item
You have 14 days from delivery to request a return.
There are two return types:
A. The item isn't as described (free return)
If your piece arrives and it doesn't match the listing in any material way (incorrect description, undisclosed damage, inaccurate measurements, misleading photos), you are fully protected:
- Free return
- The seller or Vinterior arranges pickup
- Full refund, including outbound delivery costs once the seller receives the item

B. You changed your mind
UK-to-UK furniture deliveries:
To make UK furniture returns predictable and stress-free, we offer a simple flat return fee of £75.
- Applies to furniture delivered from a UK mainland seller to a mainland UK address. Excludes Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly.

We coordinate the return with either the seller's chosen courier or our trusted delivery partner.
All other items
Most smaller items are straightforward to return.

- For larger or more fragile pieces, the seller may recommend the safest return method.

3. If your item arrives damaged
