Description
A unique and exceptionally elegant Sèvres porcelain pedestal tazza / footed compote featuring a beautifully scalloped rim, dated 1835, from the Louis-Philippe period.
The piece is made of hard-paste porcelain, offering a pristine white interior that contrasts strikingly with the vivid blue exterior ground. It is embellished with rich hand-applied gilding, consisting of intricate foliate scrolls and floral sprays around the reserves, and a gilded floral wreath detailing the base. The underside bears the green Louis-Philippe royal cipher ('LP') mark under a crown for 1835, together with the handwritten titles of the two views: Montlhéry and Mont-Blanc.
This tazza is especially interesting because of its rare combination of form and decoration. It is not a standard plate, but a refined footed decorative piece with elaborate gilded ornament and two named landscape views. The scalloped form, vivid colour contrast, masterful gilding, and subject matter give the object a strong decorative presence, while the dated royal Sèvres mark gives it clear historical importance.
One painted reserve depicts Montlhéry, with snow-covered buildings, trees and small figures in the foreground. The other depicts Mont-Blanc, with a wooden building, trees and an alpine mountain background. The painting is very finely executed, with careful architectural and landscape detail, soft colour transitions and excellent preservation.
Extensive image-based and feature-based research, including AI-assisted visual comparison by form, colour, decoration and subject, has not revealed another directly comparable tazza with the same combination of features. With a high degree of probability, it may be assumed that this piece was part of a very small special commission or possibly an individual order, rather than a standard production service. The specific pairing of this elaborate decorative scheme with strictly identified topographical locations is entirely unprecedented. With no exact analogs ever found, this piece stands as a major find and a highly desirable acquisition for any serious collector of early 19th-century Sèvres porcelain.

Condition report:
Very good antique condition. There is minor dulling to the blue colour on the inner rim in a few places, and very slight wear to the gilding on the upper rim. Otherwise, the condition is excellent: the painted reserves, gilding and decorative elements are beautifully preserved.

1. Free cancellations
Changed your mind before dispatch?
You can cancel any order before it's shipped for a full refund, including delivery.
To cancel an order, click Create cancellation on the order page.
Once an item has been dispatched, delivery costs are not refundable.
Bespoke, personalised or made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled.
2. Returning an item
You have 14 days from delivery to request a return.
There are two return types:
A. The item isn't as described (free return)
If your piece arrives and it doesn't match the listing in any material way (incorrect description, undisclosed damage, inaccurate measurements, misleading photos), you are fully protected:
- Free return
- The seller or Vinterior arranges pickup
- Full refund, including outbound delivery costs once the seller receives the item
This applies to all purchases.
B. You changed your mind
UK-to-UK furniture deliveries:
To make UK furniture returns predictable and stress-free, we offer a simple flat return fee of £75.
- Applies to furniture delivered from a UK mainland seller to a mainland UK address. Excludes Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly.

We coordinate the return with either the seller's chosen courier or our trusted delivery partner.
All other items
Most smaller items are straightforward to return.
You can still return your item within 14 days.
- For smaller or parcel-sized items, you can choose to post the item back yourself using a tracked service, or the seller can suggest a preferred courier.
- For larger or more fragile pieces, the seller may recommend the safest return method.
- Return delivery costs vary depending on size and courier.

3. If your item arrives damaged
Damage on arrival is uncommon, especially for UK furniture deliveries.
But if something does go wrong, you're fully protected.
