Description
Very rare pair of 'Fumay' chairs, designed in 1965 by the world-famous French duo, Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron.
This solid oak “Fumay” pair of dining armchairs is considered a reference among furniture from the 1950s to the 1970s. These dining armchairs perfectly exemplify why, through their proportions, unique concepts, and the highest level of woodworking, the French duo created timeless furniture.
These chairs showcase beautiful lines, from Guillerme and Chambron's signature tapered legs to the elegantly crafted armrests, which are carved from light oak with the utmost care. This armchair model is made with meticulous attention to detail and offers exceptional comfort.
This version of the 'Fumay' model with armrests is distinguished by its refined curves and the outstanding craftsmanship characteristic of the Guillerme & Chambron duo.
The genius of the design lies in the details and the uniqueness of the structure, such as the stretchers between the legs, placed at different heights in the front and on the sides.
The elegant look is complemented by upholstered seats made of a premium light linen and wool blend fabric, which perfectly matches the color of the oiled oak.
Condition:
In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The chairs are newly refinished and reupholstered in premium light fabric, a blend of wool and linen.
At the customer's special request, AMS Gallery offers a re-upholstery service in a fabric of choice.

About the Designers:
Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron were a French creative duo who met under unusual circumstances. During the Second World War, the two formed a deep friendship while imprisoned in a Prussian prisoner-of-war camp.
Guillerme had graduated from the École Boulle in 1934 with a degree in design and architecture, while Chambron had studied at the School of Applied Arts in Reims.
After the war, Guillerme moved to Lille in northern France, and Chambron left his job as a painter and decorator in Paris to join him in 1948.
In 1949, the pair met Émile Dariosecq, a skilled cabinetmaker who enthusiastically agreed to manufacture their designs. Together, they founded "Votre Maison" ("Your Home"), a company that built a worldwide reputation for creating functional yet beautifully designed furniture for everyday life.
Their pieces, primarily crafted from various shades of waxed oak, reflected the mid-century modernist movement that emerged after the war. Guillerme worked as the designer, Chambron handled promotion and sales, and Dariosecq's workshop brought their creations to life. Over its lifetime, "Votre Maison" produced over two thousand models, leaving a lasting impact on the world of design.
One of their most famous and sought-after pieces is the Grand Repos armchair, a stately, high-backed piece with a sculptural oak frame, six spindles, and plush cushions.
