Vinterior Curated by Liberty: A twist on timeless
Timeless isn't about staying the same. It's about finding new perspectives. Vinterior and Liberty have come together on an exclusive collection of five vintage furniture icons, each reimagined through Liberty's unmistakable fabrics.
Vinterior Curated by Liberty is an exclusive capsule collection comprising of five one-of-a-kind vintage and antique furniture pieces, each sourced for its enduring design and craftsmanship, then reimagined through Liberty's celebrated fabrics. Two design worlds brought together in pieces that feel both familiar and entirely new. Each one begins with a story. Each one gains another.
Led by Genevieve Bennett, Liberty's Head of Design for Home and Interiors, each pairing brings together two objects that share the same era, the same conviction about craft, and now the same room.
Bennett sourced every piece with a clear brief: find vintage and antique furniture that already holds its own place in design history, then ask what a Liberty fabric could add to that story rather than replace it. "Sourcing pieces for this collection was about pairing histories of craftsmanship, as much as aesthetics and designs," she says. She was drawn specifically to sculptural, curved forms, pieces with enough presence to hold their own against the bold character of Liberty's chosen fabrics.
The Cassina Maralunga 2-seater sofa, originally designed by Vico Magistretti and one of the most celebrated vintage sofas in Italian design history, is paired here with Shadow Stripe Weave in Amalfi. Inspired by Futurism and Vorticism, the design sits against the sofa's engineered softness in a combination that feels composed and quietly daring. The Maralunga became one of the best-selling Italian sofas in history, earning the Compasso d'Oro in 1979.
Two 1960s Carimate chairs by Vico Magistretti, with their distinctive bold red mid-century frames, are matched with Mount Stitch in Acacia. A densely embroidered fabric evoking mountainscapes and ancient forests, its raised bouclé yarns bring an unexpected warmth to the chairs' graphic lines. "The charming naivety of Mount Stitch felt perfect against the bold red frames” says Bennett, “the combination was intentional and carefully selected, to capture the relaxed, expressive modernism of the era”.
A vintage beech standard lamp from the same decade is fitted with a bespoke Liberty lampshade in Ottoman Spot in Lacquer, an elegant cut-pile velvet drawn from a 19th century artwork in the Liberty archive. The kind of piece that shifts the feel of a room without demanding attention.
The Alky chair, designed by Giancarlo Piretti in 1969 and produced by Anonima Castelli in Italy, is a rare find in its original 1970s production. Highly collectible, the chair has been reimagined in Liberty’s Zig Zag Velvet in Cetona from the FuturLiberty collection: a cut-and-uncut jacquard velvet reworked from an early 20th century Liberty archive reference, evoking the vibrancy of jazz dance. "The Alky chair feels contemporary again with its low-lounge seating and curvature, and with the paired fabric selected." The chair's curved silhouette against the velvet's hard geometry is a contrast that feels entirely deliberate.
Completing the collection is a 1960s Swedish Lamino footstool ottoman, chosen specifically for its curves, is upholstered in Cravat in Scarab Lacquer. Where the footstool rounds, the fabric's geometric design pulls in the opposite direction creating tension.
“The furniture carries the legacy of its designer, and previous life, while the fabrics draw on Liberty’s own archive and design heritage.”
Geneveive Bennett, Head of Design at Liberty Interiors
All five vintage furniture pieces in this collection date from the 1960s and '70s. "By bringing Liberty fabrics to these pieces, we're creating a dialogue between past and present, honouring original craftsmanship while imbuing a new relevance. There's something very meaningful about creating contemporary relevance while respecting what already exists."
Liberty has championed craft since 1875, while Vinterior has helped over a million vintage and antique pieces find new homes rather than landfill. Neither brand is interested in novelty for its own sake. "Liberty’s designs have outlasted trends for over 150 years, the pieces in this collection have done the same. That's the spirit this partnership is built on: timeless design, beautifully made, built to last." Sandrine Zhang Ferron, founder and CEO of Vinterior.
The collection is available from 1 July 2026 on Vinterior.co, with prices starting from £900.
