Biography
Josep Puigdengolas Barella (Barcelona, 1906–1987) was one of the most distinguished Catalan landscape painters of the 20th century. He trained in Barcelona at the Escola de la Llotja and also studied at El Paular, later spending time in Florence, where he expanded his artistic education. His development was deeply connected to the great Catalan landscape tradition, and his work is often linked to the influence of Eliseu Meifrèn and Joaquim Mir.

Puigdengolas became especially known for his landscapes, gardens, mountain views, coastal scenes and urban compositions. His painting is characterized by luminous color, loose brushwork, atmospheric sensitivity and a poetic interpretation of place. Although he maintained his studio in Barcelona, he also spent important periods painting in Mallorca and La Cerdanya, two locations that helped shape his sensitivity to light, geography and open-air landscape.

In 1951 he was appointed Professor of Landscape at the Escola Superior de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in Barcelona, confirming his institutional recognition and his importance within Catalan artistic life. His paintings are held in important public and private collections and remain highly appreciated by collectors of Catalan and Spanish art.
