DESCRIPTION
Atmospheric mid-century Catalan landscape by Joaquín Asensio Mariné, depicting a traditional rural farmyard in the Montseny region of Catalonia. A rustic farmhouse stands between monumental golden haystacks, while chickens roam freely across the sunlit foreground beneath a tall central tree.
The composition captures the unhurried rhythm of Mediterranean country life through vigorous, spontaneous brushwork and richly layered oil paint. ABOUT THE ARTIST
Joaquín Asensio Mariné was a Catalan painter born in Barcelona in 1890. Largely self-taught, he became known for landscapes, Mediterranean coastal views, rural scenes, figures and still lifes. His work combines traditional realism with a restrained Impressionist and Post-Impressionist sensibility, characterised by loose brushwork, visible impasto and luminous earthy colour.
Asensio Mariné participated in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1944 and exhibited regularly in Barcelona during the 1940s and 1950s. His work was shown at recognised venues including Galerías Pallarés, Sala Vilomara, Sala Rovira, Sala Argos and Galería Jaimes. He also exhibited internationally in Lisbon and Porto.
His landscapes frequently portray Catalan farmhouses, mountain villages, Mediterranean shores and scenes of everyday rural life. These works are appreciated for their warm colour, vigorous handling of paint and authentic evocation of the Catalan countryside.
