Jieldé Lamps - Industrial French Loft and Signal Collections

Unrivalled in the world of lightning, Jielde lamps deserve a spot on your wall or home desk. If you are tired of not having enough light in your room, a Jielde lamp serves more than just a decorative purpose; these charming, industrious light designs are all you need to cast light over your entire space.

Virtually indestructible, the lamps are simple, solid, and fully articulating, purpose-built, the light had to shine wherever it was required and in all directions.

The design was originally inspired to meet the demand of industries and factories, both robust and practical; it served working needs.

Drawing from one man's quest for golden perfection, a lamp fixture tough enough to stand firm against long working hours in a mechanics workshop, Jean Louis Domecq's mission was simple to bring everlasting light to his dimmed space with a simple design that could articulate without the need for electrical wires.

An electrical circuit breakthrough followed! The Jieldé brand shot to the top of French industrial style lighting, and full production started in 1953.

From the Loft and Signal collection to a desktop Zigzag, retro-style aficionados are charmed with this modest French selection to bring a little industrial patina to your interior.

About Jieldé

Popping up on desks and home offices of everyone, from interior designers to architects, Jieldé lamps are the industrious chic from the French designer Jean Louis Domecq, labelled as one-of-a-kind, robust classics. Famous for their elegant simplicity yet functionality, Jieldé lamps are design classics for a reason, built initially to solve Jean's own frustrations, of finding a reliable lamp to equip the machines in his mechanical workshop he set out to find a solution to his problem. He challenged himself to design a potent lamp. Mechanical engineer Jean Louis Domecq, born in the 1920s in Lyon, France, worked tirelessly for two years, perfecting his first lamp model. Lamp accidents were known to have happened in the previous century due to breaking wiring caused by the lack of correct insulation materials. Domecq's success story lies in the electrical circuit itself, a mechanism of metal discs incorporated into the hinges that eliminated the need for external wires. The lamp could be swivelled and the head articulated without breaking a wire because there are no wires in the joints. The final design was released in April 1950 and put straight into full production. Due to the robust and functional design, a considerable demand grew for his lamps; workshops and factories were buying them up by the dozens. In 1953, inspired by his own initials, he established the company Jieldé. His collection later introduced pendants, the LAK wall light, floor models, and smaller colourful versions. Each handmade piece reflects a serial number to identify the lamp and ensure it's the real deal. Domecq's daughter, Marie-Françoise, took over the company when her father passed in 1983, and in 2002 the company was sold off. Still, production remains in Lyon, and the same handmade techniques and components continue to be used. From the Loft and Signal collections to the Zigzag, these industry-inspired lamps are a perfect example of form follows function, a trusted decoration element for your home and work environment to guide you through your day.
