Inside the Playful North London Home of Lisa Pierce
A little Palm Springs in North London. Step inside the Crouch End home of Lisa Pierce, Head of PR at Nobody's Child, where vintage finds, unexpected colour combinations and treasures collected along the way make for a home full of personality.
For Lisa Pierce, Head of PR at fashion brand Nobody's Child, a beautifully designed home doesn't mean one that's too precious to live in. With two kids and a busy household, good design and everyday life go hand in hand.
Lisa and her family have called Crouch End home for eight years, although their love affair with the North London neighbourhood goes back much further. With its independent shops, neighbourhood pubs and village-like feel, it's easy to see why they've stayed. And their home has much the same appeal. Warm, welcoming and always ready for a houseful of people.
When they first moved in, much of the house was white. Working with interior designer Laura Stephens, Lisa introduced a warmer palette, drawing inspiration from Palm Springs and the photography of Slim Aarons. Soft pinks, earthy browns and contrasting ceilings now sit alongside bolder moments, including a pair of brilliant blue doors. Proof that practical decisions can be rather good-looking too.
The kitchen is an unusual one, sitting at the front of the house, but it's very much the centre of everything. A vintage wooden island topped with marble takes pride of place, surrounded by warm pinky tones, vintage lighting and hand-painted Hungarian bowls. It's where the kids do their homework, where the family eats and where friends inevitably end up gathering over drinks.
Vintage plays a big part in making the house feel like theirs. French chairs have been reupholstered in playful fabrics, while her Vinterior finds sit comfortably alongside contemporary designs. Lisa has a particular soft spot for the smaller things, too. A vintage letterpress tray houses shells collected on family holidays, and flea market artwork and little treasures picked up along the way find their place throughout the house.
“It's not a stage house. We've got a busy family and two kids. We just wanted everything to feel inviting, warm, and playful”
Lisa Pierce
Even the children's rooms have been designed with longevity in mind. Her eldest son's bedroom, complete with birch ply wardrobes, a vintage Vinterior chair and a blanket found at a Florida vintage fair, has barely changed in eight years. A room that's grown up with him, rather than one that's needed reinventing every few years.
For all its considered details, Lisa's home doesn't take itself too seriously. With two kids, friends coming and going and a kitchen island that sees more action than the dining table, it's a house designed to be enjoyed. Beautiful furniture? Absolutely. But no one's going to tell you not to put your feet up.
