As the founder of Pelican House, the contemporary rug and textile brand that works with artisan communities across India and Nepal, Bella has built a career around celebrating craftsmanship. Unsurprisingly, the same philosophy runs through her home. Every room is layered with vintage furniture, inherited treasures and handcrafted textiles gathered over years of travel.
When Bella and her husband bought the flat in 2020, it was a blank canvas of fresh white walls. They quickly swapped safe neutrals for rich colour, painting the hallway a joyful pink themselves and filling it with framed tribal textiles collected during Bella's travels through Gujarat. Those pieces are more than decoration. They are memories of the artisans she met and the communities that continue to inspire Pelican House today.
That sense of storytelling is what makes the home so compelling. A Friday morning spent browsing Golborne Road for vintage treasures sits alongside heirlooms passed down by both grandmothers. Italian ceramics share shelves with Turkish textiles. A Maltese painting inherited through her husband's family hangs comfortably beside contemporary woven artwork created by Pelican House's own makers.
Rather than following trends, Bella's interiors have evolved naturally through collecting. She admits she rarely buys anything new, preferring pieces with a past. Vintage furniture from Vinterior, eBay finds, market discoveries and inherited antiques all live together, united not by matching styles but by shared character. Even practical decisions become opportunities for creativity, whether it's turning an old Kantha quilt into a headboard or transforming a silk sari into a window blind.
