Design Dialogues: ENSŌ Vintage

By Libby Slavin -

To celebrate Vinterior’s launch in the Netherlands, we travelled to Amsterdam for the first instalment of Design Dialogues, our new interview series exploring the people shaping the city’s creative scene. We meet Andrea and Liseth, co-founders of ENSŌ Vintage, to talk conscious consumption, creative instinct and why the best pieces deserve a second life.

For Andrea and Liseth, the story of ENSŌ Vintage began long before they opened a store. Both grew up with an appreciation for secondhand clothing and the thrill of finding something unexpected, from browsing markets to discovering pieces that could be altered, reimagined and given another life. After later building careers in fashion, the pair found themselves questioning an industry caught in a cycle of constant newness. Vintage offered another way forward.

Almost eight years later, ENSŌ has grown from a collection run out of their living rooms into one of Amsterdam’s most distinctive vintage destinations. At its heart is the same belief that brought Andrea and Liseth together: that well-made pieces deserve to be appreciated, kept and worn for longer.

Their approach to sourcing is deliberately instinctive. Rather than beginning with a rigid checklist, they look for pieces that provoke an immediate response - an unusual silhouette, an exceptional material or simply the feeling that they have found something special.

That instinct extends beyond the wardrobe. Furniture and objects have become an equally important part of ENSŌ’s visual language, with Andrea and Liseth continually searching marketplaces, fairs and places they encounter while travelling. The result is an aesthetic they describe as clean but deeply rooted in its own identity: timeless forms, strong lines and unexpected softness, brought together with recurring materials such as concrete, stone and glass.

Their Amsterdam store brings those worlds together. Formerly a gallery, the space was an opportunity to create somewhere that could house clothing, furniture and objects under one roof. Vintage chairs sit alongside carefully curated garments, while custom elements mingle with found pieces, giving the store the feeling of a constantly evolving collection rather than a conventional retail space.

“It’s not just a product we want to sell. There’s a soul behind it.”

It is also a reflection of how Andrea and Liseth see vintage itself. A chair or jacket isn't simply another product: its previous life is part of what makes it compelling. Whether something is worn, sat on or simply lived alongside, ENSŌ celebrates the character that comes from objects made to last, and the possibilities that emerge when they're given a new home.
