Description
In General
A Jim W Anderson RE, "Faceless Horde (The Revolution of the shirts)", Collagraph on handmade paper, rare Artist's Proof, framed, 1989. A hilarious image of shirts with their ties revolting against their human owners and running off on their little squat legs! Their naked owners are left in a state of naked panic!! This image is very typical of Jim Andersen's highly satirical and anarchic art work!
This collagraph is an artists proof as marked 'AP' on the front of this art work. An Artist's Proof is more sought after by collectors than limited edition prints due to their rarity and exclusivity, often comprising only 10-15% of the total print run. Due to their rarity and exclusivity some collectors focus solely on acquiring them. Many times, the artist proof varies from the final edition, making it unique, a trait that entices collectors.
Jim Anderson is a renowned multi-media artist who focuses on printmaking, mosaic-making and painting and has been a member of The Royal Society of Printmakers since 1996. All of the Society's members are practising professional printmakers, elected after a rigorous selection by a panel of their peers. The Royal Society of Printmakers is one of the world's premier printmaking organisations.
Most of his prints and paintings feature handmade, recycled paper and scrap materials as shown in this art work. His art encompasses many different media and ideas; but use of found or recycled materials is always very important and his work is always imbued with the surreal and the satirical. He combines social satire and surrealism, and is influenced by sources as diverse as the Bible, the Beano, and the Kama Sutra.
After a foundation course in Cambridge, Jim Andersen studied English and American Literature at Oxford University, followed by printmaking at London's Central St. Martin's School of Art.
His prints and paintings appear in numerous national and international exhibitions and his prints have been awarded a number of prizes in major national exhibitions, most recently the 2016 T. N. Lawrence prize.
He is a passionate believer in the possibilities of public art, and has been involved since 1998 in several large-scale public mosaic projects. In 2002 one of his mosaic murals in London was shortlisted for a Camden Design Award. Since then he has supervised and undertaken the production of over thirty public mosaic projects. He is proud to have produced between 2005-2012 a series of substantial mosaic murals for Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. His public mosaics can be seen at locations around London and Cambridge, and in unexpected places in Spain, Greece, Kenya, and the USA.
2002-2004 found him performing as a member of the rock group Juju Babies, who were band-in-residence for Ibiza's Manumission Club during the summer of 2004.
A collagraph is a printing plate created by gluing or adhering various textured materials to a base surface. These materials, which can range from fabrics and natural elements to found objects and paints, provide a unique and textured surface that is then inked and pressed to create a print.
