Description

Andy Warhol's Flowers made their first appearance on the New York art scene in 1964 when they were exhibited at the Leo Castelli Galley. enjoying enormous success.

Flowers in Pop Art version are among the most evocative and most appreciated works by the artist's public, but also the last in which the artist uses the painting technique.

For Warhol, working on natural images was something he had never experienced before, in fact it seems that the idea of this choice was suggested to him by his friend Henry Geldzahler, then curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The latter in fact went to Warhol's studio , noticed how full the Factory was with works depicting Marilyn and works of commercial products, such as Campbell soups and Coca Cola. He then decided to advise the eccentric Pop Artist to use something different.

Inspired by hibiscus flowers, in Flowers Andy Warhol transforms nature into the protagonist for the first time, using an unusual style. The Pop Artist combines impressionist and abstract techniques giving life to new images, very different from the previous ones inspired by celebrities and consumerism.

This lithograph is numbered 1534/2400, numbered in pencil and signed in the plate. The CMOA stamp is a guarantee for the multiples of A. Warhol. CMOA is the acronym of Carnegie Museum Of Art, museum of Pittsburgh, birthplace of A. Warhol, to which the artist donated 60 of his subjects, giving the possibility of creating multiples (of each subject 60 x 60 such as Mao Tse Tung , Flowers and Marilyn Monroe) in a limited edition of 2400 pcs. For this reason the availability of these lithographs begins to be difficult, in fact these numbered subjects are in demand all over the world.

The collection we have for sale consists of 5 pieces, with identical numbering, 1534/2400. The reason for the same numbering is that these 5 lithographs are part of the folder number 1534, each folder is composed of 10 different colors, and of these, 5 are those published on our site.

The frame is in black lacquered wood of about 2.5 cm with a round section.
