10 Trends that will last through every season
Whether we are willing to admit it or not, we all enjoy anticipating upcoming design trends. Each season brings exciting new ideas, but while it’s always worth keeping an eye on what the industry’s talents are busy developing, you should never feel pressured to adhere to what is presented as on-trend. Trends come and go (now quicker than ever), making it impossible to catch up with the everchanging interior expectations.
But what if there is a way to create a look that will last through every season? Something that will look good forever?
1. Pick traditional colour schemes

If you are looking to design a timeless home, make sure to opt for traditional colours such as white, off-whites, beige and greys. A neutral backdrop looks elegant and refined and leaves room for future modifications while supporting the introduction of many different accent colours.
Think ahead and aim for the look that will last and support you in the years to come. Choose neutrals for expensive and difficult to change design elements like upholstery and tiles, and introduce colours with cushions, throws, décor or even wall paint.
If properly applied, neutrals alone are anything but boring. Just remember – where colour is at a prime, the texture needs to be at a premium.

2. Embrace natural materials

The easiest way to design a soothing space that will be in style forever is by selecting natural materials. They not only help us reconnect with the great outdoors and bring calm into the space, but they also age well.
And while we occasionally like to experiment with a range of different manmade materials, we always go back to wood, stone, glass and natural fibres.
In the increasingly tech world, we learn to appreciate the raw and organic, so the craving for a more natural environment inside our homes is only expected to grow in the years to come.

3. Choose quality, not quantity

If you are designing your forever home, the number one tip we have for you is to prioritise quality over quantity. This doesn’t mean you should spend a fortune on furniture and decor, but rather aim for the best you can get within your budget.
Remember, you don’t have to furnish everything at once. Embracing a slow decorating approach will empower you to select more high-quality pieces without breaking into a bank.
High-quality vintage items are often much more budget-friendly than their subpar new alternatives and won’t fall apart or look dated in a few years.

4. Texture over pattern

While a sofa or a chair in a trendy, eye-catching colour or pattern can be a wonderful statement piece, the chances are you will grow tired of it before the fabric wears off. Choosing texture over pattern is a more viable solution that still allows you to introduce throw pillows in any motif you desire.
But if you are determined to make a big commitment, go for traditional patterns like stripes, checks, plaids and florals.

5. Flowers as a theme

Even though we heard many times that florals are gone, it just never happened. The reason behind our endless fascination with floral motifs is their warm, nostalgic charm.
Florals have a tendency to evoke the cherished memories of our childhood. They trigger the most tender feelings of love and acceptance while suggesting freshness, class and feminine power.
We usually find them in upholstery and fabrics, but also in wallpapers and art.

In this day and age, we are often pressured to design homes in 2D vignettes that will look beautiful on our Instagram feeds. Even though there is nothing wrong in the desire to snap aesthetically pleasing images of your home, before considering your feed, please make sure to first check if your choices will support your lifestyle.

9. Simplify

Don’t go overboard. Opt for clean lines, an uncluttered look and simple layouts. Minimalist design always ages more gracefully than bold, decorative pieces and is much more adaptable to the lifestyle changes.
