With optimism in our eyes and minds full of goals and plans for the year ahead, let’s take a moment to discover what’s new in the field of interior design and what interior trends will be everyone’s favourites in 2019.
In troubled times like these when the world gets overly stimulating and heavy on information, we tend to seek emotional shelters. Or in this case, a better word would be build. Our home becomes our private refuge, a cocoon where we go to unwind, simplify, heal and simply feel safe. Designed to pamper our wellbeing and provide us with much-needed privacy, our interiors are becoming increasingly important factors of our happiness. And 2019 will be the year when we finally fully acknowledge this fact and start rethinking our personal spaces for the future!

Mindful Living in a Soothing Space
When the outside world makes us feel a bit out of place, our home can provide an oasis of calm and cosiness. In 2019 we will rely on rich fabrics to provide us with tactile delights (think velvet, silk and woven items), and texture to add interest to the otherwise neutral settings. Dried flowers, cotton branches, crystals and stones will lend perfectly into the picture while paying homage to the overall spa aesthetics.

Appreciation for authentic, handmade pieces with evident traces of imperfection or patina will get louder as we approach the end of 2019. We are finally leaving fast furniture behind and making the doors wide open for pieces with personality to conquer the space.
A warm sophistication will be the look of 2019, with soft neutral colours such as beige and tans leading the way towards a soothing zen-like aesthetic we are all craving for. The interior spotlight will be on sage (and the rest of earthy greens), lilac, mustard, teal and terracotta, but also on the new pastels which now appear all grown up and mature. We are not yet over millennial pink, but 2019 will show us how this sweet, youthful shade can be an amazing team player and empower other colours to take on more important roles in our interior spaces! Colour blocking will be the game of 2019!

Sustainable and Pre-loved Furniture
It is not a form over function anymore. Furniture is art again!
Antiques are back and what 2019 interior trends will teach us is just how beautifully they can play along with the modern pieces. Modern eclectic interiors now feature traditional furniture, heirloom treasures and second-hand jams juxta-positioned with contemporary lines and materials. We are not talking pops here, but rather a heavy layering of traditional elements with round edges, chairs with big, soft arms, sling back chairs, large antique mirrors and tables with turned legs.

But as living spaces keep shrinking, so does the size of the furniture. Vintage and antique pieces with built-in storage will be on demand in the seasons ahead, while huge and splashy items won’t make the cut just yet.
However, it is not only convenience and space-saving attempts that are driving this trend forward. An increasing number of people is looking for a more intimate environment in their homes which has resulted in tremendous growth in the popularity of scaled spaces. And 2019 we will most probably be the year when we finally say goodbye to open plan living.
In the sunset of the Scandinavian minimalist interior trend, maximalism thrives! And this means fewer rules and cheat sheets to implement your 2019 decorating projects. The style will be defined by its authenticity and personality punch it provides, not by the thickness of the owner’s wallet. One of a kind solutions with unique, statement vintage pieces or a creative upcycling project will be what makes the difference between nice and glorious interior space in 2019.
Grey On Teal ‘Trees’ Sideboard £1,750.00
Mixing and matching of colours, styles, eras, patterns and influences will label the year ahead, but with one common goal – creating a comforting, yet playful interiors where one can reflect and thrive in their own privacy.
Interior trends of 2019 will provide a perfect setting for design lovers to unleash their full potentials, but unless you are seasoned with the whole layering game and you know your colour wheel by heart, we advise you to start small and take baby steps until you are certain on the direction you are heading. Once you are positive, go all in!
Focus on the Bathroom
With less space available, we find ourselves seeking moments of alone time in the privacy of our bathrooms. A bathroom is no longer just a utility room, but a place where we go to think, reflect and take care of our body temples. In 2019 this trend will manifest itself in the rise of statement vanities and oversized circular mirrors (selfie anyone?).

A new direction can be described as Neo Art Deco with Milano Memphis influences, or as modern minimalism kissed by the digital revolution.
