This is a gorgeous original vintage runner in dark aqua-marine blue, violet and deep red, created using recycled textiles on a cotton base (with a green cotton fringe!). Such a lovely vintage Berber rug. It woven for personal use and has a cool, one of a kind heritage.
Boucherouite (pronounced boo-shay-REET), is a word meaning in Arabic ‘a piece torn from used clothing’, or a ‘scrap’. Wonderfully extravagant in color, these Berber rugs make use of rag strips and yarns from recycled clothes, wool, cotton and even Lurex, threads of plastic cut from grain-transport bags, and nylon. Where original vegetable dyes were on the whole subtle when used with wool, the dyes in these lovely scraps are much brighter and bolder. The rugs can feature asymmetrical patterning and free-form shapes based on the tribal symbols and motifs used in wool carpets, such as lozenges, small squares, and chevron shapes.
This lovely rug has been washed and is clean. It has some subtle marks and very small areas of wear, testifying to its originality and authenticity
