Frank Guille was foremost a furniture designer and later teacher and Head of Furniture Design at the RCA London. Born in 1927, he was taught by Robin Day, John Cole, Gordon Russell, and Danish designer Kaare Klint, who are all considered to be amongst the most important modern furniture designers.

Guille’s furniture designs were led by his belief in functionality, utility and simplicity. His elegant furniture was visually simple and refined taking commissions from the likes of Heals and Kandya Ltd.

A staple of many homes back in the Mid 20th Century, Formica topped tables were practical and stylish. They came in many shapes, sizes, patterns and colours, instantly transforming any dull kitchen/dining room.

This lovely drop leaf table was designed by Guille and manufactured for Kandya, the opened shape is highly unusual, almost reminiscent of a squared off surf board. The checked grey and white Formica that Guille used frequently, paired with the simple beech legs really make this table stand out. If you're a fan of Mid Century aesthetics this is the table for you!

In general good condition for its age the wooden legs and frame have been fully stripped, sanded back and re-finished. There are still some minor signs of wear that couldn't be removed including scuffs and dints. The top itself has the usual surface wear including some chipping and nibbling to the outer edges of the Formica, along with light surface scratching and markings. We've tried our best to photograph all these flaws, however reflections to the Formica top make it a little tricky. Please contact us for further photographs should you require them. The two drop leaf panels are not 100% flush once opened up, as photographed, but nothing that compromises it's functionality.

To the underside of the table you can see the faint remnants of the original Kandya sticker.

Measures approximately 181cm long, 94cm when dropped, 80cm wide and 73cm tall, with an under table height of 64cm.

Height: 73.0 cm
Depth: 80.0 cm
