An early edition of Annig Sarian’s impressive 4059 (or KD 59) floor lamp for Italian design giant Kartell, Italy, 1970. Nothing much is written about Sarian, but Kartell was famous for pioneering products from colourful moulded plastic. The company gained international recognition in the early 70s with the show “Italy: The New Domestic Landscape” at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, which introduced American audiences to the work of designers such as Gaetano Pesce, Ettore Sottsass and the radical architectural firms Archizoom and Superstudio.

The lamp’s towering body is formed from white plastic reinforced with fibreglass with a chrome plated sheet metal detail at the top and is crowned with a spherical white opaline glass shade. It has a great presence and produces a lovely diffused light that covers a good area. We have another one to make a pair.

Good vintage condition. Rewired, earthed, with UK plug. Minor surface marks and scuffing to fibreglass, minor age to chrome.

Two available.
