Price for 1 chair, 2 available

Model 1262 chairs designed by André R Cordemeyer (1924-1998) for Gispen, Holland 1959. The chairs have black round-steel bases and the seats are upholstered in a high tech drink-repellent De Ploeg fabric.

Cordemeyer and WH Gispen worked in close collaboration, starting a company together in the 50s called Kembo, which stood for Kom Eerst Maar Bij Ons – meaning “Come to us first”. Cordemeyer, however, began life as a draftsman engineer. His break in furniture came with the iconic Cleopatra daybed, which he designed for Auping. The bed was sold exclusively through Amsterdam’s main department store De Bijenkorf and we have one coming soon to our collection. In 1954 he became a member of the Circle Industrial Designers (KIO) in The Hague, making many important contacts including Wim Rietveld, and moving into house designed by Wim’s father, Gerrit Rietveld, in Apeldoorn. From 1956 to 1976, Cordemeyer designed many pieces of furniture for Gispen and he was constantly working to improve existing designs. In 1963 he added self-adjusting nylon floor protectors to the 1262 chair, called Delrin caps, which adapt to the slope of the ground.

We have two of these chairs available in this fabric, and one in tan leather in our other listings. Great condition.
