About this item

Jean Royère (1902 to 1981) is a renowned furniture and interior designer that moved into the industry from owning a successful import/export business. His astute business background allowed him to secure several large projects early on in his design career, including a commission to redesign the Brasserie Carlton on the Champs Elysées. From this project onwards Royère grew a reputation for blending fresh shapes and materials while drawing on classicism.
This adjustable floor lamp commonly attributed to Royère is a great example of his aesthetic. The playful technique of wrapping metal bar lends itself nicely to creating the feet stem and arm detailing. The arm can be adjusted to five points by simply lifting the arm and slotting it into the hooks, which allows the user to create differing lighting moods. It is in good condition having been recently re-wired and PAT tested. The shade is a later addition and is also in good condition.
