About this item

This postmodern Italian hanging pendant lamp was designed and manufactured by Stilnovo during the 1970s. The design is a simple trumpet form of machine-spun aluminium. It is a great example of form following function and Italian curvature. The bulb is recessed quite deep inside the hood to prevent downward glare, while an outlet in the middle casts out a glowing halo.

Stilnovo worked with a number of Italy’s leading designers, including Danilo and Corrado Aroldi, Gaetano Sciolari, Alberto Fraser, Joe Columbo and Ettore Sottsass. A contemporary of companies such as Fontana Arte and Arteluce, Stilnovo rose to prominence on the back of Italian design’s move away from small family orientated businesses to industrialisation. Founded in 1946 by Bruno Gatta, Stilnovo is a significant part of the first wave of post World War II Italian design companies specialising in the production of innovative, functional lighting.

Recently rewired. It is in an great original condition with only minor surface wear to the white powder coating around the shade rim.
