About this item

Single, reserved. Rare boxed pair

A Preben Dal ceiling lamp model Symfoni designed for Hans Følsgaard A/S in Denmark, 1962. The light emits beautiful fractals of light and shadow around the room from its diamond shaped facets.

Dal is considered the mystery man of Danish lights, with only a handful of designs, which are often wrongly attributed. We do know that his Symfoni ceiling lights were sold in the illustrious Copenhagen department store Illums Bolighus and Heals in London. Dal was also in partnership with a Danish architect Ole Bang from 1959 to 1976, publishing a pamphlet about Greek temples in 1957 and Fritidshuset, an architectural book about holiday homes, in 1969. But this is as much we know.

We have three of these lamps. Two came as a pair and they come in their original cardboard box in mint condition £1,200 each. The single third one has been refinished, £1,000. They were distributed by a lighting company called Polaris.
