About this item

Fabulous Vintage Artisanal Wrought Iron Chandelier

Dating from the early 20th Century, a large, heavy and beautifully made chandelier in wrought iron.

Made in France, by "Les Compagnons du Tour de France", this is a piece painstakingly made over several hours. Worked by teacher and student alike, until perfection achieved, this really is a unique piece, in terms of style and quality.

"Le Compagnonnage", in principle, has been present in France and in Europe for at least 800 years. It is the extension of technical training for artisans and lasts four to six years, during which time the student artisan travels around France learning the best techniques from the leading artisans and on some of the most notable landmarks and construction sites.

The trip allows the student to discover techniques, materials, methods and philosophies, different in and specific to each region.

Beautifully and solidly made, with all original hooks and chains and wiring, this is really a fabulous statement piece for a large country kitchen, living space, or entryway.
