A stunning wooden shrine which has been repurposed with the addition of a mirror.

A beautifully crafted complex design with four sets of turned columns, two of which are in relief. It has a decorative fretwork top pediment above a scalloped edge forming a Mehrab arch and original hooks, where bells or similar hanging ornaments would have hung.
The back surface would have traditionally displayed an image of a Hindu deity.

This was doubtless a home shrine, where a family would make offerings and burn incense.

It's created from teak and it has a gorgeous colour and patina. A piece of some quality, the majority of rediscovered wooden shrines are commonly rustic pieces, this one is some cut above and no doubt originates from an Haveli, a merchants palace.
