A fine quality Queen Anne solid silver plate carrying the crest of the McPherson Clan. Old scratch weight on underside of plate. The makers mark and assay office are legible, the date letter is rubbed. Jean Chartier a naturalised Hugenot was made a freeman of the Goldsmiths Company in 1698 and was registered as a "Largeworker".
The antibiotic and antibacterial properties of silver have been widely exploited in the medical profession. We doubt that the Clan MacPherson were aware of this. They were notorious jacobites and members of the clan supported both major uprisings
