About this item

This delicious looking work of Swedish Modern stoneware is by ceramist Elsi Bourelius (b. 1909 - d. 2001).
The clean form of this piece has been expertly made, even and balanced in the curve of the bowl and finished with a severe straight rim.
The uncomplicated form follows the Modernist design principle of providing an honest expression to the natural material of the piece. The rich, deep brown stoneware clay is given absolute centre stage and the final visual effect is similar to that of a dark chocolate cookie. The interior decor is a rich and glossy dark ink blue and is finished with five, small circular vents.
Simple and scrumptious, this piece would suit a space inspired by design themes such as Mid Century, Modernist, Contemporary or even Industrial. Very good. No chips or cracks, there is use wear in the glaze decor that is commensurate with age of the piece - please refer to photos as part of condition report. The underside of the base is inscribed with Elsi's 'Elsi' signature and the number '350'. Unpackaged weight: c. 0.8 kg / 778 g.
