About this item

Throughout history landmark events have been summarised in newspaper headlines, the newspaper headline board is a key part of this. This particular example from the Evening News, with it's bright colours and bold typeface this is a good example of the type.
Evening News was a London newspaper that ran from 1881-1980 when it was merged with rival newspaper - the Evening Standard. This board is a paint-on-metal example and probably dates from the 1960s-70s and is complete with the retaining cage, hinges and clips.

Condition is generally good for a piece that would have spent a lot of it's life outside, there are areas of paint loss, particularly around the edges and around the retaining clips for the cage and the surface is slightly mottled, particularly on the outer edges that would've remained exposed, even when the headline paper was fitted. There is also slight denting to the upper middle where it's been hung from a nail/screw. Having said this, the colours remain bright and the text very clear.

The board measures 87.3cm high, 52.5cm wide and is around 2cm thick.
