An attractive antique late Georgian silhouette portrait of a gentleman.
Framed and glazed in a rectangular frame with a gilt rose finial and hanging loop.
The gentleman on the picture is Reverend Joseph Gilbert (1779-1852).
Congregational minister, Sheffield and Nottingham in 1828-1851. Prior to that classical tutor at Rotherham college (Non-conformist Academy). He published A Life Of Dr. Edward Williams who where a minister and tutor of same college and Other Theological Works See Dictionary Of National Biography.
Central oval gilt bezel frame finishes the portrait off beautifully.
Original backing, English c1840's
Very good condition overall.
