About this item

1920’s vintage shop display locomotive train by Lines Brothers of Merton. Founded in 1919 Lines Brothers Toys was in the 1960’s the largest toy manufacturer in the world before collapsing in the economic crisis of the 1970’s. This train would have been supplied to toy shops to use as a window display to promote its extensive range of railway toys and accessories. A large number of Lines Brothers toys are on display at the V&A museum of Childhood in London. The set comprises the locomotive and three rolling stock. All the wheels turn. The rolling stock does not ‘couple’ but sits together with rubber bumpers. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
