About this item

Little Alsacian Sugar Ax, made of a combination of wood, brass and iron.

Sugar bread was invented by the Venetians around the 14th century.
Initially, sugar was sold to the weight, shaped as a conical bread of 1 to 3 kg, wrapped in newspaper. It had to be crushed with a peak, a hammer or pliers to be served in smaller quantities.
