About this item

A small, delightful walnut mantel clock dating to the end of the 19th Century. This clock is from the first period of the Arts and Crafts movement and is almost certainly by the well renown designer Lewis Foreman Day. The solid walnut case has a caddy top, turned side pillars and carved oak leaf and acorn decoration. The 8 day pendulum movement was made by W & H. It has a fancy brass bezel with a polished bevel edge glass and a blue and white enamel dial with birds and foliage, a hallmark of clocks by Lewis Foreman Day.
Most of Day's clocks were ebonised, and geometric in design, but this is an interesting example as it features the use of foliage, very reminiscent of his prints and ceramic tiles.
