About this item

This lovely altar table is a little less heavily carved than much of the furniture seen from Shaanxi province in central China, but still has some beautiful relief carvings on the four lower panels, as well as carvings on the side spandrels, right down to the cabriole legs and scroll effect on the feet. The smaller panels below include swastikas - a symbol in Buddhism for good fortune and to represent the Buddha's footprints, while the larger central panels show floral decoration.

It is in an excellent condition, boasting its original finish and simple hardware and has three useful, deep drawers.

This large table would once have been used in a temple to hold incense and offerings and is a little less imposing in size than other altar tables.

A stunning piece to use today as an unusual console in a reception room or long hallway.
