About this item

Richard Hornby teak dressing table for Fyne Ladye Furniture c1960.

Fyne Ladye Furniture was a top quality maker in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Smaller than A Younger, but equal in quality and design. They’d have been more expensive than G Plan, McIntosh and other large companies, but they used solid teak and afromosia as did Younger, whereas G Plan used veneers.

In Richard Hornby they had a very accomplished designer. Typical features of his designs are various cut out handles, which make for a nice clean streamlined look.

This lovely design is really versatile as the middle section can be easily removed leaving you with 2 large bedside chests. There are slot in metal supports to hold the middle dressing section in place.

Great for a small flat or a teenagers bedroom, as the dressing table makes an ideal desk when the hinged lid is down.

The quality of wood and manufacture is as you would expect from this quality maker. Rarely are their pieces labelled as they were retailed through top independent shops like Heals of London. Such retailers preferred to sell more exclusive pieces which didn’t have maker’s labels on them. We bought this and other items from a large house on the south coast, whose owners had bought mainly from Heals in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.
