Antique Victorian Mahogany Duchess Dressing Table Swivel Mirror Vanity Carved Turned Base 19th Century
A beautifully proportioned and wonderfully atmospheric Victorian mahogany duchess dressing table dating from the late 19th century, most likely between the 1860s and 1880s. Rich in character and displaying all the elegance associated with high Victorian craftsmanship, this is an exceptionally decorative yet practical antique piece with a warm mellow patina developed over well more than a century of use.
The overall design is refined and beautifully balanced, combining graceful curves with solid traditional construction. The bow fronted lower section gives the piece a softer more sophisticated silhouette than many Victorian dressing tables, while the raised swivel mirror creates excellent height and visual presence without overwhelming a room. It is the sort of piece that immediately adds warmth, depth and authenticity to an interior.
The large original mirror is particularly attractive, framed within solid mahogany and supported by a pair of elegant turned upright columns finished with decorative finials. The mirror retains its original glass plate which has aged beautifully with slight foxing and gentle silvering in places, exactly the sort of honest ageing collectors hope to find in untouched Victorian furniture. There is also a stable superficial crack visible to the upper section of the mirror frame as shown in the photographs, though this does not affect usability or stability.
The mahogany throughout has acquired a deep glowing tone over the decades, with wonderful colour variation and grain visible across the top, drawer fronts and mirror surround. The top surface displays the sort of authentic wear and patination that only genuine antique furniture develops naturally over time, including minor polish inconsistencies, marks and old filled areas around the sides. These imperfections only add to the charm and sense of history of the piece rather than detracting from it.
Below the mirror sits a single central drawer fitted with its original turned wooden knobs. The drawer runs smoothly and provides useful storage while maintaining the elegant proportions of the design. The lower structure stands on finely turned and carved legs united by a shaped platform stretcher base, giving the dressing table both visual lightness and reassuring solidity.
One particularly charming aspect is the wonderfully sculptural lower base arrangement, which has a distinctly grand Victorian feel despite the relatively compact proportions. It would work beautifully not only as a dressing table, but equally as a statement hallway piece, bedroom feature, boutique display item or decorative console within a period or eclectic interior.

The condition is good overall for a genuine piece of this age. Structurally, it is solid and usable, with age-related wear entirely consistent with over a century of use. There are some redundant historic worm holes and small areas of filler visible upon close inspection to the bun feet, though these are relatively discreet. For peace of mind, the foot areas have been treated with worm fluid. Three original bun feet remain present, while the fourth rear foot has been replaced at some stage with a practical wooden block support, which is largely hidden from normal view when positioned in situ.

1. Free cancellations
Changed your mind before dispatch?
You can cancel any order before it's shipped for a full refund, including delivery.
To cancel an order, click Create cancellation on the order page.
Once an item has been dispatched, delivery costs are not refundable.
Bespoke, personalised or made-to-order pieces cannot be cancelled.
2. Returning an item
You have 14 days from delivery to request a return.
There are two return types:
A. The item isn't as described (free return)
If your piece arrives and it doesn't match the listing in any material way (incorrect description, undisclosed damage, inaccurate measurements, misleading photos), you are fully protected:
- Free return
- The seller or Vinterior arranges pickup
- Full refund, including outbound delivery costs once the seller receives the item
This applies to all purchases.
B. You changed your mind
UK-to-UK furniture deliveries:
To make UK furniture returns predictable and stress-free, we offer a simple flat return fee of £75.
- Applies to furniture delivered from a UK mainland seller to a mainland UK address. Excludes Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly.
- Pickup arranged for you

We coordinate the return with either the seller's chosen courier or our trusted delivery partner.
All other items
Most smaller items are straightforward to return.
You can still return your item within 14 days.
- For smaller or parcel-sized items, you can choose to post the item back yourself using a tracked service, or the seller can suggest a preferred courier.
- For larger or more fragile pieces, the seller may recommend the safest return method.
- Return delivery costs vary depending on size and courier.
The seller will confirm the best option based on the item.
3. If your item arrives damaged
Damage on arrival is uncommon, especially for UK furniture deliveries.
But if something does go wrong, you're fully protected.

7. Refunds
Once the seller receives the piece back in the same condition it was sent, we'll issue your refund to your original payment method.
Once a refund is issued, it may take up to 5–10 working days for the funds to appear back on your original payment method, depending on your bank or card provider.
If the item is returned with new damage that wasn't present at delivery, the refund may be adjusted following review.
