About this item

The Tulip table is a true classic by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen for American manufacturer Knoll. Saarinen’s constant pushing of form and material lead to the creation of some of the most important advances in both architecture and furniture design, notably his airports in Washington and New York.
This neo-futuristic table design is a true icon that is still highly relevant and in demand today. Developed as an attempt to reduce and refine the visual clutter Saarinen saw as being commonplace in most table designs with legs. Part of the innovative pedestal series, Saarinen achieved his aim, reimagining the table in aerodynamic form. An aluminum base sweeps up from the floor and vanishes into the underside of the table top, made from Arabescato marble. A thin polyester coating was applied over the top making it more durable. The table shows minimal signs of yellowing, given it is a late 1950s, early 1960s original. Minor nibbles to surface, good all round condition.
