About this item

This is a very well aged antique bureau which dates to mid 1800s. It is made of walnut and mixed woods and has a fall front which opens to reveal a fitted interior and slide open drawer.
The bureau is fairly low and is set on tapered turned legs which are finished with old iron roller castors. The front has two small drawers surrounding a dummy drawer, these are set over a wide drawer, all are finished with aged brass drop handles set on decorative back plates.
The desk is very aged and not for the faint hearted, it is a rustic piece which has suffered extensive nibbling by woodworm over the years, this is long inactive but the wood has hundreds of small holes on all sides and the legs.
The bureau is very well aged and has extensive wood worm damage which is no longer active but has been treated as a precaution.
Perhaps the legs were cut down at some point, either that or the previous owner was rather short.
The drop leaf and fitted interior has various gaps where the wood joins each section. The drop leaf has cracks to the veneer on the front which has also lifted slightly.
